I sent a message to the Help Team about this and have not yet heard back, so maybe someone here knows.

Is it possible to download my entire Geni Family Tree on a GEDCOM file, to transfer it to my tree on MyHeritage?

I have over 1000 people on my tree at this point. However, each time I download the file, I get only 338 people on it. So my tree on the MyHeritage site has only 338 people. I hope there is a way to download the entire tree with all the individuals on it, otherwise if I want to also have the tree on MyHeritage, this means duplicating my efforts for some 700+ individuals, as well as any additional individuals I add from here on out.

How many folks you can download is based on how many profiles you are credited with having added - currently you can download 4 X the number you have added. So -- add more profiles and (providing they are not merged into ones added before you added yours), you will be able to download more.

On the other hand - make sure to check "Forest" to be able to get as many folks as possible in your extended families, Blood Kin if that is not what you want.

I have never been able to tell how many folks actually were included in a GEDCOM. How do you tell?

Well I downloaded a GEDCOM file and imported it to MyHeritage, and it says clearly that it has 338 people on it. But I have more than 1000 on my tree at present. What do you mean about how many I'm credited with having added? I added all the 1000 that are on my tree...how else would they get on my tree? I did not import any GEDCOM files to GEni...everything on my Geni tree was manually added by me.

Deborah, your tree is an isolated tree (not connected to the World tree) containing 342 profiles. You have indeed added more than 1000 profiles, but 2 thirds of them are not connected to your tree and as such will not be included in the GEDCOM export.

You can export those if you focus your export on one of those 750 profiles.

On a closer look, it appears that more than 342 profiles are connected to your tree. They probably fall outside Geni's definition of family tree (4th cousins).

I tried exporting your tree (forest) I got 687 profiles in the export. More than your 338, but I still can't account for the remaining 400.

Hi Oton
Thank you for the assistance with this issue. I now am connected to the World Tree so it's no longer isolated. Many of the profiles I created were duplicates as I did not quite understand how Geni World Tree worked. I have merged those now.

Well I ended up just re-doing my work on the MyHeritage site as I could not figure out how to get more than the 338 profiles to copy. Yes many of them are distant relatives beyond 4th cousin so if those will not import than that helps explain it, though I still dont' know why you got 687 profiles when I only got 338!

Hello all! 👍🙂 I tried downloading a “forest” from my computer and phone, but the file cannot be unzipped and I don’t know of any apps that can help me download my entire ged.com file. Can someone help download it all for me or give me a link, so I can download it from FamilyTreeDNA.com?

Why are you trying to download a gedcom from Familytreedna?

And why are you asking about it here, instead of in their forums?

@ Lois Lubin:
I didn't know where to look, but now I will look for a forum here on the site and give the same type of report. I ordered a kit from this website and it lead me to FamilyTreeDNA.com. I'm new to this. Thanks for responding and I hope you have a good day.

To tag someone, the most reliable way is to copy and paste the URL to their profile.
Sometimes the @ will work - but THE @ WILL NOT WORK IF YOU TYPE A SPACE - you have to type the @ and then, no space, type the person's first or last name - then if a window pops with the name you want, choose it. But if you type a space - as you did above, or for example after the first name, then no window will pop.
Please delete your post above where you hard typed my first and last name.
In future please never type more than just my first name. Tagging is fine - I have my settings so those not logged in to Geni just see Private User if I am tagged, not a name.

As for looking "here on the site" for Forums - I am confused.
This is not FamilyTreeDNA.com
Look there, not here.

Moreover -- if you are that new there, I am surprised you have a Tree already at FTDNA.

Or are you talking about wanting to download a Tree from Geni to upload to FamilyTreeDNA.com? Or download from someplace else? Or?

Bruce Russell Baginski as you now are connected to the Geni World Tree your complete tree would almost 190 million profiles, so you cannot export them all. As you are a Pro user you can export max. 50 thousand profiles in a single GEDCOM.
You should probably export a Forest. You can export a GEDCOM from any profile you added.
If there are unconnected branches you should start an export from a profile in each branch and combine those to a single GEDCOM and then remove any profiles from it that you are not interested in. And then import the resulting GEDCOM to MH.
This is going to take a lot of effort and is not something that you should want to repeat.
You would be better of sticking to one platform (Geni or MH)
