This is an interesting dilemma. I spent a long time researching the tree of (who I thought was) my father. Through DNA it turns out he was not my father at all and the relatives of my birth father have made contact with me and I now know a lot about him. I never knew either of these men before they died (which might have been a good thing!). I now want to delete the 'wrong' father's tree and substitute my 'real' father's tree. How would I do that?

If that was the family you grew up with why delete it? Just start a new family tree for your birth family.

You have an option to have more than one set of parents. Look in relationships, select the purported parent as adoptive or wharever, the other ax biological. There isn't a choice for presumed.

Alternately, I had a tree for a wrong distant cousin. A geni curator detached the wrong person for me. Tree is there for matches to be made by others so work not wasted.

Under the relationships tab there's a drop down box on the right. You can choose biological, adoptive or foster. Then you can add your real father's name and details. No need to delete anything, just change the status of the relationship and make the adjustment.

Or you can ask a curator like Private User to disattach the wrong tree from yours. Whoever belongs to that other tree can then merge it into theirs whenever they join geni and thank you for doing half their work for them.

Hello there
If I may be able to add a comment on this, I can say that collaborating with one of the Curators or even an Assist Curator ( Leanne Minney ) should get the results you want
Definitely bring it to their attention however, if you’re planning on removing the profiles yourself
It was good of you to go the extra yards and do the snow thing … it may have uncovered a lot of work to fix the tree but applaud your desire to do so
Good luck with it

….do the whole dna thing ….. not, snow thing

As others said you can either choose to change that relationship to adoptive or you can disconnect yourself from the non-biological father using the relationships panel.

Hi Marlie46

Basically we need to

1. Add a new father to your profile (attached as partner/spouse to your mother)
2. Move you to be their child
3. Detach the incorrect father from you (and if necessary detach it from your mother)

If you would like to message me I can help you with fixing it.
