Today I received an email from MyHeritage News introducing OldNews.com.

After logging into OldNews.com with my MH credentials, and attempting to perform a search, I found there is an additional non-trivial annual charge for this service.

MH say that users can upgrade to an "Omni" subscription, but the price of said "Omni" subscription cannot be found anywhere within the MH website.

I have a MH Data Subscription and use it every day to resolve matches that enhance my Geni tree.
Today I saw results from OldNews.com in my Smart Matches, but I can't access them because I haven't paid the fee for a year of OldNews.com (which is published there) or the upgrade charge to "Omni" which isn't published anywhere.

I have a Newspapers.com bolted into my Ancestry account.

I searched OldNews.com for my grandfather, and found 4 entries that Newspapers.com does not have.

So it does work, and SmartMatching from OldNews.com into my Geni profiles is a lot less work than the hassle of writing a PDF for every Newspapers.com article and adding it as a Document to the Geni profile.

Has anybody here on Geni upgraded to Omni yet?
If so, what are your impressions; was it worth it?

Can anybody here on Geni direct me to the pricing for Omni?

Thanks--GMK

Curators have not been informed about this so i am unable give an answer. You will need to wait for more details to be released.

Jason Scott Wills Thank you for the information. I'll look forward to the release of more details.

I saw the mention about Omni in an email from MyHeritage - it said it also includes Geni Pro. And I think MyHeritage Complete.
But I have seen no way to subscribe to it. So far they have not offered me the option to upgrade to it.

My Complete Subscription to MyHeritage expires the middle of this month and I cannot even find any place on their site where they say how much they will charge me for the renewal. Nor any option to just order Data. Or etc.

If you are not aware - MyHeritage varies majorly in how much they charge for the same service.
I had Complete for 75% off one year.

Fees and Payments

Subscriptions

MyHeritage offers the following payment-based subscription plans in addition to the basic free (Basic) site plan, which include:

   Premium family site plan
   PremiumPlus family site plan
   Data plan
   Complete plan
   Omni plan
   Photo plan
   OldNews.com Pro plan

...
4. Prices Subject to Change

Prices may be changed by MyHeritage from time to time. For the current prices, see price list. Prices may be subject to additional taxes and customs charges, depending on the country in which you reside.
Following each payment, MyHeritage will send you an email with the details of the purchase and the amount charged.

5. Renewal of subscriptions with Price Lock

Subscriptions that were purchased with a Price Lock guarantee ("Price-Locked Subscriptions") will renew at the same price at which they were originally purchased. Changes to subscription prices will not affect the renewal price of Price-Locked Subscriptions. If you have a Price-Locked Subscription, then as long as you keep it, you will always be charged the same locked price at renewal anniversaries. If you discontinue a Price-Locked Subscription by stopping its renewal, and allow it to expire, you are not guaranteed to be able to purchase it again at the same price in the future.

Job Waterreus Thank you for the information.

When logged into MyHeritage, I am unable to view pricing. It redirects me to my homepage.
After logging out of MH, and going to https://www.myheritage.com/pricing I see only this:

Basic
Premium
PremiumPlus
Data
Complete

Indeed, the Omni stand alone subscription is 99USD per year with first year discount.

By attempting to access a SmartMatch from OldNews.com I discovered the Omni plan is USD33.25/month which would be 399USD/year.

It remains to be seen if, as possibly promised on that screen, you get a Geni Pro membership included with that Omni bundle. If so, the sum total is less than the standalone Data at 189USD/year and Geni PRO at 129USD/year plus Omni at 99USD/year which equals 417USD/year if I were to buy an Omni stand alone to go with the MH Data and Geni PRO to which I currently subscribe.

The performance of Omni SmartMatches is hit and miss at the moment. I am seeing more and more of them entering my SmartMatch hints, but it has yet to SmartMatch the 4 hits on my grandfather as mentioned at the beginning of this thread. It could be a powerful new tool to add to my arsenal down the line, but not until the performance is consistent and until the pricing is published in better detail by MH.

Private User My MH expires in December so I have time to wait to see how they work out the bugs, the pricebundling, and the overall integration. Last time I ordered, I had to get on the phone with MH and correct some overcharges made when I ordered Data Only and they gave me Complete. Good luck.

Mike Stangel can you provide details on pricing?

Here in the Netherlands Oldnews.com will cost €90 for the first year. No pricing for Omni yet.

I just received a telemarketer call from a person who idenified himself as Dima offering me for $192 CAD a 1 year Omni subscription for geni, old news, legacy, reimagine, and my heritage. My current my heritage subscription ends in October. But i hesitate to use telemarketers, as most calls I receive are scams. In this case the person had my phone number and my email, knew i subscribed to my heritage and when it expires, so might be legitimate? Did not seem to know I subscribed to geni. So Not sure. Still considering. Don't want to be scammed. But said i only have 24 hours to decide. I don't make snap decisions, and 24 hours seems too short a time for me to consider, especially on a busy day like today... Any thought?

When there is a short time limit it is very likely a scam.
You could try contacting MH and see if they have any information about such an offer.

On my MyHeritage site, it has banner for "Special Offer"
"50% discount on the New MyHeritage Omni plan, for the next few days only!"
Appeared very recently.
"Learn more" - after clicking several times - shows full price is $399, 50% as $199.50
This is US Dollars.

And got email today with same terms saying ends May 18.

You might check your MyHeritage site and see what it says, in case anything listed there.

The call might be a scam. But I would not put it past MyHeritage to behave that way.
The last time I talked to one of their staff, he made it clear he viewed "straightforward" as negative.

I Currently do not have a paid MyHeritage account.
Maybe they are offering it for less to folks that already have MyHeritage paid account.

Think that account might well be only one they look at / salesperson might have access to.

Definitely might try to contact MyHeritage if no similar offer to one offered you by phone either on your site and/or in email.

What happen when you already have a running pro Geni subscription (until December 2024 for me) and apply for the Omni MyHeritage offer ?

Hi everyone, I do not have details on Omni pricing, it could be location-specific. They DO employ tele-sales staff to reach out via phone and offer discounts; usually not with such aggressive deadlines but I suppose it's possible. You could always tell them you're interested in the offer but insist on paying online at myheritage.com rather than giving your credit card information to someone over the phone.

Laurent Rathle if you already have a Geni Pro subscription, it will be extended by 1 year before you are billed again. This is done automatically for users who pay via credit card (because we control the timing of the renewal billing). If you pay for Geni Pro via PayPal, you'll be instructed to contact our support staff (because the PayPal subscription is on a hard schedule so our staff needs to intervene to add a year at no cost).

Mike Stangel - what about those of us currently with an expiration date of Dec. 2027 (due to cancellation of our lifetime Pro) - will it stay the same, or extend to Dec 2028 or ??

Mike Stangel Thank you. I've subscribed to Omni, and since I've paid Geni with Paypal, I'll wait for your staff instructions.

I ordered the Omni Plan
The email confirmation I received included

Unlimited access to 2,000 online genealogy webinars for all levels on Legacy Family Tree Webinars, a MyHeritage company. Activate the first year of your free membership. This coupon is personal and cannot be gifted.

And

Full access to all Pro features on Geni.com, a MyHeritage company, where you can join and explore the world's largest family tree. Activate your first year of free access. This coupon is personal and cannot be gifted.

In each, the sentence starting "Activate" is in red and is a link.
I currently have a membership to each.
Do I wait till that membership has run out and then click it, or if I click it now will I get a choice for when it starts, or?

Private User redeeming the Geni coupon code for Omni will extend any existing subscription by 1 year. For PayPal users, there's no way to programmatically change the next billing date so we're now suspending the PayPal payments, then reactivating after the next billing cycle passes. Anyone who was a Lifetime subscriber to Geni should email subscriptions@geni.com for concierge service :-)
