About Abraham "Abe" Washington Attell
Professional boxer. Featherweight Champion of the World from 1901 to 1912. Inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1955, the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990, the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and the San Francisco Boxing Hall of Fame in 1985. Accused of being behind the "fixing" of the Black Sox World Series of 1919, but convinced a New York jury that he was not the correct Abe Attell. He is still believed to have been Arnold Rothstein's right-hand man and the gambler the players dealt with directly.
