Lil had many suitors, eventually marrying a German ophthalmologist, Otto Neustatter, in Munich in 1900 at the age of 29. She gave birth to her only child, a son Walter in 1903. Evidently the birth was a painful, gruesome event resulting in her inability, even if she had wanted, to have further children.
