Andrew Jenkins's ministry covered 40 years' full-time service, followed by 10 years' retirement, in which he preached in almost every charge in the Presbytery of Wigtown and Stranraer.

He began his ministry in the Congregational Church and served in Govan, Dalmarnock, and Mosspark in Glasgow, followed by terms in Aberdeen and Wishaw. Following this, he was admitted to the Church of Scotland, being licensed by the Presbytery of Paisley. From there he ministered in Wamphray, Hoddam & Brydekirk, and Inch, the church from which he retired in 1982. During this time he served on the Annandale Presbytery stewardship and finance committee, and also on the Church of Scotland's home board committee. He was also Moderator of Presbytery in Annandale and then in Wigtown & Stranraer in the year before he retired.

He was the son of the Rev William Jenkins, who was well-known in the 1920s in the Glasgow area as the Soldier Evangelist. Andrew carried on his father's zeal for Gospel preaching and had a driving desire for the Church to be faithful to God, working for the relevance of the practical love of God to be known in everyday situations.

He was a man of high principles, with a colourful way of presenting his views, and could never be accused of backing away from difficult situations. Despite this, he had earned a great deal of respect from those among whom he ministered and in the community at large.

He was well able to reach the oldest to the youngest, treating everybody the same way and using a very individual sense of humour, which attracted many to him.

Andrew was in regular attendance at the General Assembly, becoming a well-known figure there. This indicated his keen interest in Church matters. It is fitting that he passed away while attending the Assembly.

In 1946, he married Jean McClymont, who died in 1977. Their son, Archie, was born

in 1952 and inherited his father's competitive spirit, displaying this in athletics, giving Andrew cause to be proud of his son's achievements.

In 1979 he married Elizabeth Dunn, with whom he spent the latter part of his ministry and retirement.

Andrew's ministry touched many people's lives and there are many who owe a great deal to his faithfulness. He will be missed by the Church community in the Galloway area.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and son, Archie, daughter-in-law, Cathie, and his two grandchildren, Fiona and Sheena.
