ON ANNA'S CHURCH.... (where she's baptized).
Kaighn Avenue Methodist Church started in 1875 and constructed their edifice in 1880. Services continued at this church on Kaighn Avenue below Third (north side) until 1955. During that year, the congregation of the Kaighn Avenue church merged with Union Methodist, located at Fifth and Mt. Vernon streets. The old Kaighn Avenue sanctuary was sold to another denomination. The building remained standing into the 1980s, even though the roof had completely collapsed. In November 1966, after a totally destructive January fire, Trinity Methodist Church, formerly of South Broadway, merged with the Union-Kaighn Congregation. Today, the Union-Kaighn-Trinity Church is just a memory, but there are two main despositories for South Jersey Methodist Church records:
1. Pennington School in Pennington, NJ, which holds the collections of the Methodist Historical Society of the Southern New Jersey Conference.
2. Drew University, Madison, NJ.
I would suggest contacting the United Methodist Church Conference Building, Rt. 70 East, Old Orchard, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002 and ask them to identify where the Union-Kaighn-Trinity records may have been placed. Be prepared to realize, however, that the records may not have survived. With a merger, a second merger, and then closure of the church, many of the records may have gotten lost in the shuffle.
Hope this helps you out!
