About Anna Mary Jirik
OBITUARY Mrs. Anna M. Jirik widow of the late Joseph J. Jirik of Lonsdale, died on Wednesday morning, August 17, at the Northfield City, Hospital. She had been ill for several years. Funeral services were held on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Lonsdale. The Rev. Henry Gessner offered the Mass of Christian Burial, and was assisted by the Rev. Charles C. Jirik of Vermillion, and Msgr. John Sankovitz of St. Paul. Other clergymen present included Rev. Gerald Keefe and Rev. Joseph Streff, both of St. Paul; Rev. John Hemp of Prior Lake; Rev. Michael Hoeppner; Rev. Alton Scheid; Rev. Martin Beckman of Hopkins; and Rev. Alphonse Kubat of Veseli. Members of the Rosary Society, St. Ludmilla Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Lonsdale, attended the services in a group. 'Serving as pallbearers were Larry Smisek, Bob Jirik, Mark Jirik, Paul Jirik, Bernie Smisek and Ken Jirik, all of Lonsdale. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Lonsdale. Visitation was at the Lonsdale Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Jirik was the former Anna Marek, daughter of John and Anna M. Marek. She was born in Wheatland Township on August 31, 1896. Her marriage to Joseph J. Jirik took place on May 25, 1915, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The couple farmed in the Lonsdale area for many years, and they later retired and moved to Lonsdale. Mr. Jirik died on May 27, 1972, and Mrs. Jirik had more recently been residing at the Northfield Retirement Center. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Joe B. Smisek (Helen) and Mrs. Val Skluzacek (Rose) of Lonsdale, Sister Emeria of Mankato, Sister Paulissa of St. Paul, and Sister Rita of Prior Lake; and five sons, Joe T. Jirik and George J. Jirik of Lonsdale, and Frank E. Jirik, Ray W. Jirik and John P. Jirik of Webster Township. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Jirik (Mary) of Faribault, and Mrs. William Hertaus (Elizabeth) of New Prague; and two brothers, Joseph A. Marek and John T. Marek, both of Lonsdale. There are also 30 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Dan Tikalsky (Ludmilla), Sister Prudentia and Sister Alzbeta, and one brother, Jim Marek, are deceased.
