Arthur Forbes, 1st of Rires

The earliet cadet of Pitsligo to found a family which endured, was Arthur Forbes of Rires, third son of the second Laird of Pitsligo. He acquired the land of Rires in Fife in 1477 by marriage with Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Michael Wemyss, younger of Rires, and in that year Elizabeth had a royal charter confirming her as heiress to her grandfather in the lands of Rires.
There was one son, William, who succeeded.

Sir Arthur Forbes of Riress, 3d Son to the above Sir Alexander of Pitsligo Married _____ Weems [sic] haeritrix of Riress, by whom he got the Land, who bear to him Sir William Forbes of Riress.

ARTHUR FORBES, 1st OF RIRES, was third son of Sir Arthur Forbes of Pitsligo and obtained the lands of Rires upon his marriage to Elizabeth, only child of Michael Wemyss, eldest son and heir of Sir Thomas Wemyss of Rires, and for which he had a charter under the Great Seal on 2 September, 1477. He was alive on 20 April, 1494, when he granted a Precept Clare Constat in favour of Alexander Ramsay of Brackmont, and d. prior 8 April, 1498, when William Lundy of that Ilk had a gift of the ward of the lands of Rires.
He was father of,

• 1. Arthur Forbes, the ward of whom was granted to William Lundy of that Ilk on 8 April, 1498, with the provision that he should marry Isobel Lundy, daughter of the said William. He appears to have dsp [died without posterity] soon after as his brother Sir William Forbes succeeded their father in the lands of Rires.
