Ben Hill Lawrence, 67, died unexpectedly in Adrian Thursday afternoon, August 13.

Mr. Lawrence was born and reared in Washington County and had lived in Johnson County for 34 years. He was a son of the late Lucian Lawrence and Mrs. Eliza Fowler Lawrence. He was a retired farmer and a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Chafin Lawrence; three sons, Kermit Lawrence, Brunswick, Don Lawrence, Dublin, and Dewel Lawrence, Jefferson, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Annette Blizzard of Americus and Miss Judy Lawrence of Adrian; one stepson, Maynard Chafin of Vietnam; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ann Poindexter of Cocoa, Fla., and Mrs. Martha Williamson of Vidalia; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Mae Crapps and Mrs. Nona Bell Rogers, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Mrs. Walter Beasley, Jacksonville, Fla., and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from Poplar Springs United Methodist Church at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, August 15. The Rev. Griffin Thompson, the Rev. W.E. Flanders and the Rev. James Rush officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge.

Active pallbearers were Julian Hutcheson, Thurman Pope, Clarence McLendon, John S. Horton, Herman Dollar and Grable Hutcheson.

The honorary escort was composed members of the Board of Stewards of the Poplar Springs United Methodist Church and J.A. Thompson, R.D. Carver, Edward Chafin, M.Z. Claxton, Jr., Carl Gillis, Jr., and C.W. Cordell.
