He was a member of the 1933 State legislature.

Obituary- "Benjamin Franklin Newlon, oldest son of J. S. and Heneritta Newlon was born at Grafton, West Virginia, March 19, 1869 and passed away at his home in Palmer, April 12, 1945 at the age of 76 years and 24 days.

At the age of six years he came to Nebraska with his parents, who settled on a farm 9 miles west of Central City where he grew to manhood. He confessed his Lord and Saviour at the Prairie Creek Church and was Baptized in Prairie Creek as a young boy. After attending Nebraska Central College he taught school one year at Dist. 45 and two years at Dist. 51.

On April 26, 1893 he was united in marriage with Almyra Peck and to this union four children were born. Following his marriage he farmed for nine years in the Prairie Creek vicinity, then moved to a farm two miles southwest of Palmer in 1902 where he farmed until 1928, then moved to Palmer where he spent the rest of his life. He united with the Palmer Christian Church in 1911 where he served in the Church Board and was Superintendent of the Bible School for 12 years.

He was a member of the 1933 State legislature.

Surviving his passing are: his wife, his four children: Floyd, Ethel and Roy of Palmer, and Maud N. Smith of Wichita, Kansas, five grandchildren: Irene and Vivian Newlon, Norval and Gordon Smith and Marta Newlon, three sisters and one brother: Jessie Barritt of Trenton, Nebraska, Atha Riddlemoser of Central City, Nebraska, Hayward Newlon of Kimball, Nebraska and Violet Voss of Venice, California, as well as nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends."
