About Bessie Lee Chunn
Mrs. Bessie Lee Kerr Chunn, 80, homemaker and long-time resident of Taylor Road, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at NHC Columbia. Funeral services conducted at Oakes & Nichols with Edward Clayton Murphy officiating. Burial in Shires Memorial Cemetery. The Marshall County native was the daughter of the late Robert L. Kerr and Lela Estella Ratcliffe Kerr and a 1947 graduate of Spring Hill High School. Mrs. Chunn was a long-time member of Philippi Church of Christ and former member of the Knob Creek Home Demonstration Club. She loved reading, bird-watching, and shell and rock collecting. She was married May 24, 1947, to Chester Odell Chunn who preceded her in death January 16, 2003. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Michael Chunn; a sister, Mary Frances Kerr Harris and 3 brothers, James W. Kerr, Bob Kerr, and Jessie Kerr.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Thomas (Kathy) Chunn of Columbia and Chester Lee (Reba) Chunn of Santa Fe; a sister, Mayme Schaffer of Ana, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Scott Chunn, Lesa Chunn (Phil) Stanfill, Daryl Lee Chunn, and Christy Marie Chunn Tobish; sisters-in-law, Frances Chunn Andrews, Ruth Chunn (Richard) Brown, and Billie Chunn (Wendell) Cooper; a step-grandson, David Patrick (Melissa) Gipson; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Daryl Chunn, Scott Chunn, Bryce Tobish, Phil Stanfill, David Gipson, and Randy Carney. Honorary pallbearers include Joel London and NHC Columbia Staff.
