Mr. Robertson died May 25, 2012 at home.

He was born July 20, 1928 in Dallas to the late William Eugene Ross and Nellie Clark Robertson.

Bill moved to Athens in 1976 to accept the position as club manager at Coon Creek Club. He served a 25 year tenure with the Dallas Fire Department retiring in 1976 as a Captain in the Arson and Fire Investigation Division. Bill was a certified Texas peace officer and was deputized by the Dallas County Sheriff's Department as Arson Investigator.

After leaving his club managerial position, Bill was employed by Community Services Inc., as supervisor of their program to repair and/or weatherize homes of elderly persons. His position was to seek out, interview and qualify low income and handicapped home owners who would qualify for aid under the Department of Energy guidelines for funds to be used to repair their homes. He also trained crews to perform these repairs.

From 1982 until 1991 he was employed by Trinity Valley Community College as Director of the Nutrition Project for Senior Citizens where he directed operations of 14 senior citizens sites in three counties. He was also a nursing home ombudsman for approximately eight years during this period. In 1992 he was elected to the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature and was honorably elected three times by his peers to serve in that position which were two year terms. The first year he was elected as vice-chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee. The second year he was elected as chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee and served the remaining five years as chairman of that committee.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a Mason, Scottish Rite and Shriner. Bill was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Robertson, son, Ernest William Robertson, brothers, Jerry Wayne Robertson, Patrick Robertson, grandson, Darren Michael Cobb, granddaughter, Dena Marie Cobb.

Survivors include his children Marie Robertson Hickman and husband David, Kenner, La., Sharon McLaughlin and husband Lee Howze, Athens, Elizabeth McFarlin, Dallas, Len McLaughlin and wife Cheri, McKinney, grandson, Jason C. Webb, New Orleans, La. 12 other grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
