Obituary source, The Roland Record, February 6, 1913

"PIONEER WOMAN ENTERS REWARD Mrs. Britta Twedt Was One of Pioneeer Settlers of Howard Township, Having Come Here in 1858, Making Trip From Illinois in Wagons.

Another pioneer has passed into the great beyond. Mrs. Britta Twedt passed away at her home, three and a half miles northwest of here on Wednesday, January 29, 1913, after several months gradual decline, due to her advanced age. Britta Twedt was born in Natterstad, Kvinherred, Norway, November 25, 1926 and was thus 86 years, and 2 months old at the time of her death.

She was joined in holy wedlock to Knudt Twedt in 1854, coming at once to this country, residing for three years in Lisbon, Ill., after which they joined the large company that moved by wagon from Illinois and settled in Howard township in 1858. Mrs. Twedt was the last of this company, except Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson who were grown at the time of coming here. For the first year, they made their home at the John Michaelson home, southwest of here, then moved north of Story City for a few years, after which they moved to the farm that was the home at the time of her death.

Nine children were born to this couple, four of whom have passed into the great beyond, one child dying in infancy, the others being John K. Johnson, who died last summer, and Mrs. Jonas Christian and Miss Maggie Johnson both of whom passed away several years ago. Those living are Mrs. D.S. Dickenson, of Gilbert; Miss Anna K. Johnson, who is staying at home; Andrew K. Johnson, of Milton, N.D., James K. Johnson, of near Story City and John K. Johnson, of near Randall. Numerous other relatives and friends are left to mourn the death of a kind and true Christian woman. Her husband died about twentynine years ago.

The funeral services were held from Bergen church last Saturday afternoon, a large number of relatives, neighbors and other friends being present. Rev. G. Smedal preached the funeral sermon after which the remains were interred in the Roland cemetary. The Roland extends sympathy to the sorrowing families in the hour of their bereavement."
