About Captain Alexander Barrett
Alexander Barrett was the son of Bartholomew Barrett and Mahitable Rood of Salisbury and Plainfield CT and of Alford, Berkshire, MA, and a patriot in the American Revolutionary War, having fought in the Albany County Militia (New York). After his father died in 1788, Alexander Barrett came to Danby, VT. He married Catharine Weller Vail, widow of Capt. John Vail, and settled on the Reuben White farm. He afterwards settled on the Seley farm. He was one of the earliest members of the Methodist church and a class leader. He was a man of considerable wealth and influence and commanded the confidence and respect of his townsmen. He was a captain in the local militia and occupied many prominent positions in society.
