ORRVILLE -- Carole Thomas Landis, 72, of 185 S. Sunset, Orrville, formerly of Massillon, died Friday, May 29 at her residence in Orrville, following an extended illness.Carole was born on Aug. 9, 1936, in Orrville, to Melvin and Mildred (Edwards) Thomas and married Bob Landis on June 13, 1959, in Massillon. She was married to Bob just shy of 50 years.She graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1954 and received a B.S. degree from The Ohio State School of Nursing. She worked as a R.N. for 50 years, first at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville and then the Cleveland Clinic in Wooster, retiring in 1998.Carole was an active member of Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville where she was the parish nurse and a deaconess. She was an avid Orrville Red Rider and OSU Buckeyes fan, and enjoyed traveling, reading, volunteering, and helping others. She especially loved to play cards and was a member of several bridge clubs.Surviving are her husband, Bob Landis of Orrville; her mother, Mid Thomas of Orrville; a daughter, Betsy (Chuck) Wagers of Wooster; a son, Thom Landis of Orrville; grandsons, Elliot and Evan Wagers of Wooster; granddaughters, Meredith and Claudia Landis of Orrville; a sister, Jan (John) Saurer of Fort Collins, Colo.; two nephews; and four nieces.She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin "Red" Thomas.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville, with Pastor Mark Steiner officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.Friends may call on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville.
