About Charles William Allen
Charles and Clara lived in and near Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish, where he pioneered in rice growing with his father Fred and grandfather Washington Allen. They removed to Lonoke, AR, where again the family pioneered in rice growing in that area. Afterwards, they removed to Rogers, AR, where they continued farming and experimented in fruit growing (mainly apples).
In October 1912 Charles and Clara moved back to Lake Charles where he managed an 1100 acre rice farm for Charlie Linkswiler.
In 1921 Charles removed his family back to Rogers, where Clara and the children stayed with Charles' mother, Mary Allen, while Charles went to Sweeney's Mechanics School in Kansas City, MO.
In March 1922 the family moved to Portia, AR, where Charles went into the garage business and remained there until his retirement, December 1945, when he and his wife, Clara, removed to West Monroe, Louisiana, to be near two of their children. They resided there the remainder of their lives.
