Charles Howard McFarland was born on the McFarland farm, four miles north of Wood River,Nebraska,he had three brothers; Philip, B. 1871 D. 1874, George William B. 1873, D. 1918 of La Salle Colorado; and Fred James B. 1884 D. 1971 of West Valley City Utah, and four sisters; Elizabeth (McFarland) Fitzgerald B. 1876 D. 1967 of Sacramento Ca; Lauraetta (McFarland) Gillette B. 1879 D. 1956 of Rapid City S.D.;Lu Lu Ann (McFarland) Pearson B. 1880 D. 1946 of Wood River Nebraska; and Jessie (McFarland) Coryell B. 1888 D. 1934 of Mercer Island Washington. Mother Ayle Ann (Kimple)McFarland died in 1894 when Howard was four years old

Howard died of the 1918 flu epidemic leaving a wife and young daughter Leila, son Howard Woodford was born after the death of his father.The oldest brother George William also died the same year (1918) with the flu, Howard was 28 years old, George W was 45 years old.
