Charles Bernard Ray, 84, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Hardin County, a member of St. James Catholic Church and an inactive member of Vine Grove Knights of Columbus, Father Diemert Council. He worked for Diecks in 1942, served as a sergeant in the 579th Military Police Battalion with the U.S. Army during World War II, worked at BF Good-rich from 1942 to 1944, Lucky Strike in 1947, Standard Janitory from 1947 to 1951 and retired in 1981 after 32 years of employment with civil service at Fort Knox. He was the loving husband of the late Anna Ruth Jones Ray. He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Robbie Miller; his parents, Hillary and Nellie Ray; three brothers, Jim, June and Bud; and four sisters, Betty, Mildred, Lucille and Mary. He is survived by his four children, Kimberly J. Miller, Charles Randall Ray, William Bernard (Debbie) Ray and Catherine Ann (Rick) Phillips; 10 grand-children and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus or Masses at the church.
