Pension hearing affidavit
Jan 1878 , Schuyler County, New York
Note: The earliest papers in the penion file are part of Harlow's mother's 1863 application for his pension which had been declared moot by the government because she had died (in 1864, not 1861 as the Mecklenburg cemetery list indicates) before the application was processed. The second set of papers represented 1878 claims by Harlow's siblings for the pension that had been denied to their widowed mother. The named siblings were Lydia Irene Sharp and Charles F. Sharp. Affidavits contained in the file included one from Dr. J. William H. Fish, M.D., the physician who had treated Harlow while ill from Nov. 11-21, 1862, in Mecklenburg (Hector Township). Dr. Fish also testified that he had inherited the medical records of his father, Dr. Henry Fish, who had attended Elizabeth during the births of both Lydia and Charles and could therefore provide the exact dates of birth of the Sharp siblings.
