Charley Herbert "Charles" Stephens, 29 years of age, of Danville, Kentucky, departed this life on February 6th, 1926 as a result of a Train Wreck at Burnside, Kentucky. He was born in Whitley County, Kentucky (now McCreary County) a son of James Stephens, who was killed by lightning in 1915 and Emma Ball Stephens, who was one of 11 children. He was the husband of Hattie Morgan Stephens, who was a daughter of William L. Morgan and Nancy Ann Upchurch of Pine Knot, Kentucky. Charles and Emma were blessed with three children.
Charles was a fireman aboard the Southern Railway Engine No# 6250 that was involved in what was claimed to be the worst train wreck in many years. A spike that had been placed on the rails was determined to be the cause of the terrible train wreck that happened at Burnside, Kentucky. Two others were injured in the wreck.
Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery in Pine Knot, Kentucky.
