Chris Botes

Chris Botes (1972 - 2015)

Brief overview:

Chris (43), a security officer at Gold Fields Mines near Vereeniging, Walkerville, was shot at his Sonlandpark home on 1st January 2015. He died later in hospital.

The Botes family were spending a quiet New Year's Day together at the house. Around 01h00 armed males invaded Chris's house. They shot Chris, and terrorised and assaulted his girlfriend while her children were present, for more than an hour, while Chris lay bleeding out. Chris's son, Christiaan (16), pretended to be asleep for fear of also being shot.

Chris's twin brother, Gert, arrived at the house to find Chris in a pool of blood. They rushed him to the Midvaal Hospital, where he died a short while later.
