In May 1844, Christopher Woodward Mawbey, labourer and orphan, was among 10 members of a Mawbey family nominated for assisted emigration to Australia. Financial backing for this was provided by the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union at the parish of Loughton in Buckinghamshire, England. At that time, the spelling of the family name was MAWBEY, [assisted emigration approval UK National Archives, Became MAWBY in Australia.
At his death the children of Christopher were listed as living: Joseph 21, Charlotte 19, Elizabeth 17, Christopher Woodward 12, Sarah 9, Edward Tassell 6, Richard James 3, William George 9 mths.
