GEDCOM Note

This is taken from Find A Grave notes associated with his gravestone. Added by relative:Christopher moved with his parents to Hartford, Vermont about 1763, being among the earliest settlers there.

He married Rebekah Wright in 1770 in Hartford. Rebekah's father, Benjamin, was the first white settler in Hartford in 1760.

Partly because New York and Connecticut claimed the right to sell land in Vermont, in 1777 Vermont declared itself an independent country, remaining so until 1791 when it joined the union. Christopher surely knew Ethan Allen who figured so prominently in Vermont's early history.

Rebecca died in 1823 (according to the cemetery records of Quechee Cemetery in Hartford, VT.) 1823 - Pease, Rebecca - age 71 However, Christopher mentions "Rebekah" his wife in his will signed Aug 21, 1834. (He died in Apr 30, 1842.) But the mention of her almost sounds like a pre-nuptial agreement: "I give to my beloved wife Rebekah 300 dollars, that is to say, to take up an indenture or obligation made previous to our marriage and executed by me." This sounds like he married a second Rebekah.

There is a “Rebecca Pease, wife of Christopher Pease, died Feb 28, 1844, age 63” at Beaver Meadow Cem, West Norwich, Windsor Co, VT. This is probably the second Rebecca. And he probably married her not long before he made his will in Aug 1834, to give her assurance that he would carry through with their agreement. He was 83 years old in 1834 when he probably married his second wife.

Christopher died in 1842 at the age of 91 and he and Rebekah (the first one) were buried in Quechee.
