About Clyde Daniel Walker
Great Great Grandpa Clyde was a very special man. He was always joking and he was very fun to be around. Grandpa loved to work and he taught me how to work. He would always have us work but there was always a reward usually fishing at the Graham Place, the Summer Range or Willow Creek. When returning from these places the Mountain View Drive Inn almost never got missed for ice cream. One of grandpa's rituals was when driving to and from his ranch properties, usually with a truck full of grand kids, when you approached a closed gate he would always say, "Horse Fence". The last kid to say horse fence back had to get out and open or close the gate.
When I was young we had a get together at his house and all the grand kids were playing in the yard. Grandpa wore a straw hat and as the kids were playing he would have us all gather around him in a circle. He had Uncle Art give him all the change in his pocket. He told all the kids in the circle to turn around and close their eyes. He told them he had put all the money under the straw hat in the middle of the circle. He said, "On the count of 3 you all dive in under the hat and the money you get is yours!" He counted to 3, the kids all dog piled to the center of the ring. What they didn't know was he placed the hat over a cow pie. What fun it was to see all the kids faces mostly green from the cow pie! But to see Grandpa's face with a monster grin is something I will never forget.
Grandpa bought and sold cattle and was a very successful businessman. The property that I live on now was a part of his ranch. Grandpa's brand was handed down to my dad, your great Grandpa Larry and when he passed in 1982 I got the brand. This story was came out of a book that my dad, Larry Ned Walker, made for my daughter Burkley when she was baptized. I typed it word for word.
