About Dorothy Barton
Dorothea Barton, Clara remembered her eldest sister, known as "Dolly," as a bright and kind young woman who longed to further her own education but had no opportunity to do so. Dolly was a teacher and assisted her sister Sarah in teaching Clara how to read. There is no known picture of Dolly. She suffered a mental breakdown in her late 20s and quit teaching. Dolly remained secluded in her room for most of the time for the remainder of her life. She never married.
