About Dr. Knut Larsen Gravem
Dr. Gravem was born in Sundalen, Norway in 1870. He received his early education in Kristiansund. In the early 1890's he emigrated to the United States, still seeking further education. He entered Cooper Medical College in San Francisco from which he graduated in 1897 with a medical degree. After graduation, he went to the Seward Peninsula where he set up a medical practice at Shelton, Alaska. Shelton is about 50 miles from the seaport of Nome. This is where he met the Gundersons while being the attending physician for L.L. during his illness and death in 1903. During this time he met L.L.'s daughter Carrie, and they married in 1906 at Kruzgemepas. In 1917 they moved to and made their home in Berkeley, California.
Spouse: Carrie Gunderson, born February 20, 1875 in Stillwater, Minnesota. Died September 24, 1944, Berkeley, California.
