About Dr. Robert Houghton Hepburn
He was the last surviving sibling of Academy Award-winning actress Katharine Hepburn.
He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1939, took a two-year internship at Hartford Hospital, then a residency in Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1941 to 1943, sped up because of World War II. During the war he served in various locations until he was appointed Chief of Urology aboard the American Naval Hospital Ship "Repose," which served in the Pacific. He was at the battle of Okinawa when the Japanese surrendered, after which his ship moved to Shanghai, China where it became a base hospital for Admiral Kincaid's 7th Fleet and the British Far Eastern Fleet. He was discharged in June 1946 at which time he began his practice at Hartford Hosptial. He was the head of the urology department at Hartford Hospital for more than 30 years until his retirement in July 1973. He died on November 26, 2007.
