About Dr. Thomas Eyre
Specified to be both a Quaker and a chirurgeon (medical doctor).
There is no hard evidence that he was ever known as "Mowrey" or "Mowery". He most certainly did not use that name after arrival in Virginia. There is no hard evidence as to who his parents were, but a connection with the Eyres of Wiltshire is possible, considering that "Thomas" was a frequent given name in that family and that there was Quaker activity in the neighborhood from quite early on.
Thomas made a will on 18 November 1657 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Thomas Eires, chirurgion. My beloved wife Susanna Eires extrx. To my eldest son John Eires when 18 my house and plantation, and a breeding sowe which I bought of Stephen Costen. To my son Thomas 2 cows. To my son Daniel 2 cows. To my friend Stephen Costen all my common wearing clothes and my great gun. Witt: Thomas Harmar, Stephen Costen.5
last name spelled Mowery in some records [Not good enough! Show PROOF! And make VERY sure you haven't bollixed him up with somebody in Massachusetts!]
