About Elizabeth Barnett (Teward)
My great grandmother married a miner immigrant from Durham, John Teward, in Brunner in 1890 while the Young family were residing there and working in the Brunner Mine. She would have known John less than two years. They had three children. She remarried to James William Barnett in Westport, Buller on October 28, 1908, the marriage took place at her home on Peel Street. It was witnessed by Francis Edward (Frank) Doncliff (1874-1943) of Westport and a Margaret Watkins of Waimongaroa. It was 12 years after the death of her first husband John Teward, in the Brunner mine Disaster.. She and James had another three children including my Nanna Belle.
