Elma Gertrude Duck Avery.

(ROANOKE) Services for Elma Gertrude Duck Avery, 93, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Ben Keeble, Elder Ted Price and Elder Steve Stableton and Elder Marshall Avery officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Avery died Sunday, March 30, at her home. A Tallapoosa County native, Mrs. Avery was born Feb. 2, 1910, daughter of John William Whitfield Duck and Mary Frances Ingram Duck. She was a member of Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Roy Avery; one son, William Harvey Roy Junior Avery; and a brother, Hiram Duck. Survivors include five daughter[s], Frances Treadwell and Jean Payne of Newnan, Ga., Mattie Perry of Phoenix, Ariz., Ruby Dean Avery of Roanoke and Nellie Estes of Birmingham; one sister, Lessie Harrington of Alex City; one brother, Andrew Duck of Alex City; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Avery will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Calvin Bishop, Kenny Whitehead, Charles B. Estes, Dean Mastronunzio, Paul Mastronunzio and Jim Monroe. Arrangements are by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.
