About Ernest Felix du Pont

  • Ernest's birth, professional, and death information are available in his obituary in The New York Times, Sunday, August 20, 1944, page 34. Ernest was the founder of the Ball Grain Explosive Company. He had joined the E.I. du Pont de Nemours Company in 1905 as an engineer, and "in 1913 developed a new process for making gunpowder. During the first World War he and his brothers, Paul and Archie, founded the Ball Grain Explosive Company and manufactured fuses. He later became a lieutenant commander in the United States Naval Reserve."
