  • Ezra was born 9 Oct 1737, most likely in Horseneck, CT.
  • He married Tryphena Burton, probably in Dutchess Co. She was the daughter of Jacob Burton and Mary Herrick and was about seventeen years old at the time.
  • They moved to Rutland, VT, in the 1770s.
  • Ezra fought in the Revolutionary War for Vermont in Warren's 15th Regiment of Vermont Militia, along with his brothers Stephen and Zebulon.
  • He died probably in 1784, leaving no will. The inventory of his estate was entered on record in Rutland, 4 December 1784. Isaac, the oldest son, "was appointed as guardian with his mother Tryphena, to his younger brothers and sisters, Lydia, Mary, Dorcas, Peter, Josiah, and Sinthy, all under the age of 14" (Vermont Families before 1791).

Tryphena remarried John Wylie, ten years later, 20 August 1794 in Wallingford, VT.

Ezra Mead (Oct. 9, 1737 - 1784), son of Timothy, grandson of Jonathan, great grandson of John, second great grandson of William, said to be born in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, and died in Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont Republic.

Asserted to have married Tryphena Burton (Aug. 10, 1743 - aft. 1826) in February 1760 in Dutchess County, Province of New York. Said to have been born the daughter of Jacob Burton and Mary Herrick in Preston, New London, Connecticut Colony and died probably in Ohio.

Said to have moved his family to Vermont sometime in 1769. "Very little is known about Ezra except that he served in the Revolution in 1779 and 1780 from Rutland and that he owned land and a house near Otter Creek in the West Parish" (Swan, 1990, p. 245).

Inventory of estate identified as that carried out by Simon Wright, John Sutherland, and Asa Johnson. His will was said to be probated on Dec. 4, 1784 and property distributed on May 6, 1785. His widow received her third of property from the distribution, the rest to his 13 living children.

Tryphena was identified as a creditor in the probate of her son Isaac Mead's estate on Jan. 3, 1826.

  • 1. Isaac Mead (Dec. 20, 1760 - June 8, 1825) born in the Nine Partners Patent in Dutchess County, Province of New York, and died in Addison township, Addison County, Vermont, at age 66.
  • 2. Silas Mead (May 6, 1762 - Oct. 1, 1843) died probably in Niagara County, New York.
  • 3. Lydia Mead (b. June 20, 1763) married Robert Sever (b. c1760) on Apr. 14, 1791, in Rutland County, Vermont.
  • 4. Rufus Mead (Oct. 15, 1764 - Nov. 26, 1824) born in Rutland within the New Hampshire Grants, and died in Cornwall, Addison County, Vermont
  • 5. Ezra Mead, Jr. (Aug. 9, 1766 - Dec. 7, 1856) born in Manchester, New Hampshire Grants, and died in Licking, Licking County, Ohio.
  • 6. Tryphena Mead (Oct. 10, 1767 - Jan. 22, 1846), died in Rutland and buried in the Pleasant Street Cemetery, married Joel Smith (c1765 - June 16, 1815) died and buried in the same place.
  • 7. Solomon Mead (Jan. 30, 1769 - bef. 1830) died probably in Niagara County, New York.
  • 8. Michael Mead (July 4, 1770 - Mar. 7, 1834) born in Rutland and died in Ovid, Seneca County, New York.
  • 9. Lydia Minnie Mead (Jan. 12, 1772 - Apr. 21, 1853)
  • 10. Mary E. Mead (Oct. 13, 1773 - 1841) born in Rutland, died in Granville, Licking County, Ohio at age 66, married Eliphas Thrall (June 23, 1767 - Mar. 9, 1834) in Rutland. He was born in Windsor, Windsor County, Connecticut Colony, and died probably in Ohio. In the 1790 census of Rutland, Eliphas' household had 2 males over age 16, and 2 females. In 1815, his family relocated from Underhill, Chittenden County, Vermont, to Granville, Ohio.
  • 11. Josiah Mead (Apr. 13, 1775 - aft. 1850) died probably in Underhill.
  • 12. Dorcas Mead (Dec. 16, 1777 - July 27, 1827) died probably in Rutland.
  • 13. Peter Mead (Mar. 27, 1779 - bef. 1806)

Ezra Mead was born 9 Oct 1737 at Greenwhich, CT, son of Timothy and Sarah (Bouton) Mead and died, probably Rutland, prior to 4 Dec 1784 when his estate was entered in probate. He was half brother to James and Zebulon Mead. Ezra married Tryphena Burton 20 Feb 1760. She was born 10 Aug 1747 at Preston, CT, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Herrick) Burton. She married (2) John Wylie 20 Aug 1794. It is believed they moved to Ohio. Very little is known about Ezra except that he served in the Revolution in 1779 and 1780 from Rutland and that he owned land and a house near Otter Creak in the West Parish.
