Faith Eugenia Weeks George

Faith Eugenia Weeks George, of Bloomington, Indiana, left this world on December 29 to rejoice in heaven and be reunited with loved ones. She died at the I.U. Medical Center after a brief but courageous battle with lymphoma.

Faith was born on December 8, 1925, and raised in the farming town of Purdy, Virginia. She attended Longwood Teacher's College. It was during that time she met and fell in love with Sterling Ray George, a student at Hampton Sydney. They married on July 21, 1946, and settled in Sterling's home town of South Charleston, WV, where he practiced dentistry.

Faith was a respected and revered educator, teaching high school English, Spanish or French and supervising student teachers in the Kanawha Valley school system. She completed a master's degree in education with a specialization in Spanish. This was accomplished, while she was teaching and caring for a family, by taking night and weekend classes at Morris Harvey College as well as summer intensive classes at Washington and Lee University.

She finished her career in education as the foreign language director for the Kanawha Valley Board of Education, taking early retirement after her husband's untimely death in 1984.

Throughout her years in South Charleston, she was an active volunteer in numerous civic groups and as a member of the First Baptist Church.

She moved to Bloomington, IN, in 1986 to join her two children and enjoy all the richness this community affords. She loved to read, play bridge, attend music events of all types and was a worldwide traveler. Most of all, she is cherished and will be remembered as a person of great vitality and as a deeply caring, generous and devoted family member and friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Sterling Ray George and parents, Stuart Elmer Weeks and Kathryn Prince Poole Weeks.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn Bayless and son-in-law, Tim; her son, Sterling Ray George and daughter in-law, Jennifer; her granddaughter Janele Bayless; her siblings Barbara Dunnavant, Dr. R. Stuart Weeks, Ruth Gray and Pernie Callahan; her brother in-law and sister in-law Stanley and Beulah George; and 4 nieces and 6 nephews.
