About Frona Carrier

GEDCOM Note

I have a Frona Carrier in my family. She was my grandfather's half sister. My mother knew her, and always said that Frona had many husbands, but no children. Her father was Nathaniel Stacy Carrier (1825-1903) And her mother was Diadama Belknap (d. 1929) I do not know when they went to NE, but on the 1880 Federal Census for Saline, Lincoln Co. NE, Frona is listed with her parents and a brother: Carrier, Stacey, 55 b. CT Diadama, 48, b. NY Frona, 14, b. PA Earl, 8, b. PA. ( I don't know about him) Nathaniel S. Carrier was born in Colechester, CT. and moved with his family about 1835 to Columbus, Warren Co., PA. His first daughter, my g. g. mother was born there (1853), but I have never found her mother. He married 2nd, Diadama in 1861, in Columbus. I rather think Frona was born there too. One of Frona's husbands was Fred Archer, for in the WARREN MIRROR, 20 March 1895, "Mr and Mrs Fred Archer visiting Mrs. Archer's father, Mr. N.S. Carrier." On 9 Feb. 1899, Spokane, WA, a marriage license application with a Thomas Fitzgerald, whose father was John Fitzgerald, and mother Catherine A. Farrell. (I found a note of this in the Spokane Genealogy Lib.) When she died in Spokane I remember Mother said her husband had already died, and he was a Fred Nichols. An article from the ADAMS COUNTY NEWS, 4 Mar 1903, (Ritzville, WA) Has this obituary for Nathaniel Stacy Carrier: "He was born at Columbus, Conn. May 1825. In 1861 at Columbus, PA He was married to Miss Diadama Belknap who was his faithful helpmeet for 42 years and now survives him. He came to Adams Co. in 1889 and has since resided here. One brother, Nehimiah Carrier, still resides at Columbus, PA. One daughter, Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald, who with her husband, has been with the parents continually since the Father's illness." I suppose this could be the same Frona, she would have been 17 in 1883. Then had a short marriage with Fred Archer, followed by Thomas Fitzgerald, and Fred Nichols. My mother went to visit her when she was dying in Spokane, but I can't remember the year. I think she was not young. Mother's family were always embarrassed by the number of husbands, I remember. I hope this is helpful. Mary Lou [NewMaster.FTW] [Descendants of Evan Davies.FTW] I have a Frona Carrier in my family. She was my grandfather's half sister.
