About Gen Sir George De Symons Barrow
General Sir George de Symons Barrow was commissioned in 1884. He was assigned to the Indian Staff Corps in 1886. He fought in the First Waziristan Revolt between 1894 and 1895. He was invested as a Commander, Legion of Honour in 1917. He fought in the capture of Jerusalem. He was decorated with the award of Order of the Nile in 1918. He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1918. He fought in the Third Afghan War in 1919. He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1919. He was the General Officer Commanding of the the Peshawar District between 1919 and 1923. He was Colonel of the Regiment of the 14th Prince of Wales's Own Scinde Horse. He held the office of Aide-de-Camp General to HM King George V between 1924 and 1928. He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1928. He was Colonel of the Regiment of the 14th/20th Hussars. He retired from the military in 1929, with the rank of General, late of the Indian Army. He served in the Second World War, with the Home Guard. He wrote several military biographies and other books.
