About George Emmett Deeley
Dr. George E. Deeley graduated from Denison College, and Case-Western Reserve Dental College. Following graduation from Dental College, Dr. Deeley was serving an Internship at Forsyth Dental Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Deeley’s father, Dr. William Steen Deeley, was a dentist in Mount Vernon, while his uncles were physicians. Dr. Deeley’s father unexpectedly died, and George returned to Mount Vernon to assume care of his father’s patients.
Dr. Deeley served as a dental officer on board the USS Block Island, which was sunk on May 27, 1944. All but 6 of the crew were rescued, and reassigned to a new USS Block Island, on which he served until the end of WW II.
George and his wife Marian had two children, Jane and Bill. Dr. Deeley’s son Dr. William S. Deeley served as a dental officer in the US Air Force, retiring as a Lt Colonel. Bill died June 2, 2002.
