Gosaduisga was a Cherokee woman

Biography

Gosaduisga was a Cherokee woman, probably born about 1750. According to Emmet Starr she was the mother of two daughters, Nannie and Elizabeth. [1] Starr lists no husband for Gosaduisga and gives no surname(s) to her daughters.

Her clan is unknown as is her date of death.

Research Notes

There is evidence that the father of Gosaduisga's daughters was a white trader named Walter Scott. Elizabeth's first son by Edward Adair was named Walter Scott Adair. The records of the Moravian missionaries refer to Elizabeth, who was also one of the many wives of James Vann, as the sister of Peggy (Margaret) Scott, but they also say that Peggy's mother was Sarah Hicks. [2] The Moravians also mention men named Richard Scott, and "Charley of Hightower" [3] as half-brothers of Peggy, so it seems likely that Elizabeth was also a half-sister to Peggy.
