About Harvey Holdeman

~OBITUARY OF HARVE HOLDEMAN

Harve HOLDEMAN passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning at his home, 520 South West Fourth Street. Death came as a shock to his loved ones as Mr. HOLDEMAN had appeared in much better health the past few weeks. It was thought he suffered a stroke. His first stroke came in September 1940.

Sorrowful last rites were held Tuesday afternoon, 2:30 o'clock in the Full Gospel Church with Earl Showalter, Mennonite pastor of La Juanita, Colorado, and Robert Giraurd of Center Point in charge of the services. A quartet composed of Ralph Durham, Wick Brown, Ted Winters and Marcus Adair sang three selections, "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder," Some Day He Will Make It Plain" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Mrs. Millard Brown of Jacksonville was at the piano.

Interment was in the Ochiltree Cemetery directed by the Wilson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were S. P. WHIPPO, J. B. CARTWRIGHT, C. B. ROGERS, W. M. GOOD, R. H. FRANCIS, Glen McGIBBON, Claud BOWEN, and D. D. TALIAFERRO. The array of beautiful flowers were carried by Mrs. Herman WAGNER, Margaret Mary PLETCHER, Goldie Mae JANTZ, Ona Grace FRANCIS, Frances Mae DODSON, Jackie ADAMS, Opal Pearl MURRAY and Leata WAGNER.

Harve was born to Alpheus and Elizabeth Buergey HOLDEMAN on February 13, 1885 at Avilla, Jasper County, Missouri, and passed away at his home in Perryton on June 27 at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 14 days.

When Harve was a lad of fourteen, his father died leaving him as partial support of the family of five children. On April 30, 1905 he was married to Miss Lydia M. PLETCHER at Oronoco, Missouri. They established their home in Neck City, Missouri, when Mr. HOLDEMAN followed the mining profession.

Six children were born to this union, all are living and present for the last services. They are Mrs. C. O. PETERSON, Harold HOLDEMAN, Mrs. R. L. KILE, Miss Eloise and Nona Carolyn HOLDEMAN of Perryton and Frank HOLDEMAN of Hawthorne, California.

The HOLDEMAN family moved to Miami, Oklahoma, from Missouri in 1911 and Mr. HOLDEMAN was in the automobile business. They came to Ochiltree County in 1919 and resided on a farm several years, later moving to Perryton to enter the machinery business.

Mr. HOLDEMAN was a man of many enterprises which gave him a large circle of friends and he never forgot one even after a long period of illness. His greatest pleasure was to lend a helping hand to those in need, always serving others better than himself. He was a member of the Mennonite Church and will be remembered by his many friends and relatives as a man of greatest courage, generosity and kindness.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, six children, thirteen grandchildren, three sisters, one brother, and a large host of friends.
