About Hayden Peter Miles
Killed by Gavin John Gosnell. The court heard how Gavin snapped when Hayden said his friend, who was Gavin's girlfriend Nicolette Vaux-Phillips, was using him and didn't like him. Gavin inflicted a savage and prolonged attack on Hayden at his Cashel Street flat in Christchurch. He laughed as he punched and kicked his victim, while Hayden cried and begged him to stop. The attack paused three or four times while Gosnell made Hayden shower and clean up his bloody wounds, before launching into him again. The next morning, Hayden was dead - likely from brain injuries. Gavin then used a $20 jigsaw to cut Hayden into 12 pieces and dumped his remains in two graveyards in central Christchurch. His organs were buried in the backyard. Nicolette and several others witnessed the attack. She was charged with being an accessory after the fact to culpable homicide. Nicolette misled Hayden's family about his whereabouts, which meant that his remains were not discovered until 3½ months after he died. The family of Hayden Miles says no sentence will be enough for the inhumane cruel way in which the teen's life was taken from him after his killer was jailed for life today. Gavin John Gosnell - dismissed as an "evil nobody" by the family - was jailed for at least 18 years for the murder and dismemberment of the teenager. Gosnell, an unemployed 28-year-old, was convicted by a jury on April 16 of the murder of the 15-year-old at the end of a seven-day trial. He had admitted a charge of "offering indignities to a dead human body" - the dismemberment of Hayden, who was found buried in different graves at cemeteries. Outside court, a tearful Jacqui Miles held up a photo of her son, saying, "This is for you Hayden. We did it. Eighteen years," she said. Standing beside her, Jacqui's sister Sandy Ward said the family was thankful Gosnell was sentenced to as much as possible, but they believed "life should be life in prison". "No sentence will ever be enough for the inhumane, disturbing and cruel way in which Hayden's life was taken from him."... Hayden had gone missing in August 2011 and it had been 111 days before it was known what had happened to him. Source: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/8758167/Hayden-Miles-murder-tormen...
