Vanasse, 78, retired NARH nurse Friday, November 02 STAMFORD, Vt. — Helen Moore Vanasse, 78, of 1477 Main Road, died yesterday at home. Born in Williamsburg, Mass., on April 10, 1929, daughter of Eugene R. and Marion Damon Sylvester, she graduated from Williamsburg High School and from the former Cooley-Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton. Mrs. Vanasse was employed by North Adams Regional Hospital as head nurse of the emergency department for many years, retiring in 1989. She was a volunteer at Stamford Elementary School and at Elder Services of Berkshire County, where she was honored with its Volunteer of the Year Award. She was the director of the Northern Berkshire Duplicate Bridge Club, a member and past president of the Stamford Valley Women's Golf League, and a member and past president of the Thursday Afternoon Women's Bowling League. She and her husband, Richard J. Vanasse, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Sept. 4. They were married at St. Mary's Church in Northampton. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Carol Vanasse of Newport Center, Vt., and Joan Allen of Cohasset; a son, Richard Vanasse of St. John, Virgin Islands; a sister, Marion Holman of Northampton; three brothers, Carl Sylvester of Williamsburg, Allen Sylvester of Northampton and Gene Sylvester of Melbourne, Fla.; and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services to celebrate the life of Helen Moore Vanasse, who died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Stamford (Vt.) Community Church by the Rev. William Wilson. Private burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Millard Cemetery in Stamford. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of the funeral home. Survivors include three grandchildren, Caitlin Lowell, and Daniel and Brooke Allen; two sons-in-law, Richard Allen and Stephen Lowell; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
