FALL RIVER – Helena C. (Miranda) DeMello, 85, of Fall River, died on Monday, June 4, 2007, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Jose Cordeiro Miranda and Maria Julia (Medeiros) Miranda, she was the wife of the late Joaquim DeMello, Sr.
Mrs. DeMello spent her life raising her family. She was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church in Fall River, enjoyed spending time with her family, and was an animal lover.
She leaves two daughters, Mary-Rose August of East Greenwich, RI, and Alice Dufault of Swansea; six sons, Joaquim DeMello, Jr., of Westport, MA, Henry DeMello of Westport, Norman DeMello of Westport, Joseph DeMello of Westport, James DeMello of Fall River, and John DeMello of Westport; a sister, Mariana Pacheco of Fall River; twenty-five grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Miranda, Mariana Miranda, Jose, Antone, Manuel, and John Miranda.
Her funeral will be held from the HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Espirito Santo Church, 311 Alden St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow the Mass in Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River.
