About Henry Nicholas Brendel, Sr.
Herny was christened in Evangelish Luttnusche, Cocalico, Lancaster, PA. (source: WorldConnect family file of Tom Young - genealogy@showshown.com ) I have not researched this family myself.
Henry, Sr. & Mary (Bivens) Brendel were married on 6/5/1810 in Lincoln Co., NC, John Brindel, Bondsman.
I've copied the follwing from a post on the Brendel/Brendle/Brindel/Brindle forum regarding Henry and Johannas (Henry's father): "Jackson County Heritage - North Carolina - Henry Brendle Sr. born Germany 7/28/1788. In 1798 he and his father believed to be Johannas arrived in N. Y. Johannas and young Henry, Sr. migrated to Lincoln Co., NC. Johannas remarried and died there. Henry, Sr. d. 3/12/1857 married Mary Bevins b. 11/4/1785, d. 6/5/1810 and moved to Brendletown, Burke Co., NC about 4 miles south of the present day town of Morganton...(lists children).... Family moved to Haywood Co., NC bought 237 acres near present day Dayco Rubber Co. Two more children (gives info). Henry Sr. and Mary are buried in Green Hill Cem., Waynesville, NC." It is believed that Brindletown, in Burke Co., NC, was named after these early Brindle/Brindel/Brendle/Brendel settlers to that area. See the Media section for pictures of what is left of Brindletown, Burke Co., NC.
Henry Brendle, Sr. is found in the 1850 census, Haygood Co., NC, age 61, b. NC, farmer, and Mary (Bevins) Brendle, age 63, b. NC.
I have a transcribed copy of the estate of Henry Brendel, Sr. which were obtained by researcher Linda Banwarth, in 1999, from the North Carolina Archives, Haywood County Estates. The record begins April 17, 1857 and mentions E.D. Brendel, J. N. Brendel, & Joseph Brendel of Haywood Co., NC, J. D. Brendel of Cherokee, NC, Henry Brendel of Fannin Co., GA. There were several disputes taken before the Superior Court of Haywood Co., NC between 1857 and some time in the 1870's,, with the estate being settled seemingly with much difficulty
I have used this to compile much of the record of this family, as well as the family file of Tom Young.
