Life
Henry "Holsteed" came to Elizabeth City County, Virginia with six others with Captain Christopher Burroughs on November 7, 1651. Christopher Burroughs was given a grant of land dated 15 Aug 1651 by the Governor of Virginia for two hundred forty acres of land. This "Head-Right", used to stimulate immigration, was for bringing Henry Holstead and others to the colony. Henry was about 25 years old when he came to the colony putting him born about 1626. Henry was a freeman so he apparently had the money to pay for his passage. Since no head-right was claimed for a wife, it is presumed that he married a local girl named Bridget but no evidence is seen for this name. Henry Hollstead received a grant of 58 acres in Lower Norfolk County on Southside of Eastern Branch of Elizabeth River at the head of Indian Creek on September 14, 1667. Henry bought an additional 200 acres on Indian Creek on August 5, 1661
