Herman Wenzel, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
He was born February 22, 1925 in Waterloo, son of Herman and Jennie Kamies Wenzel.
He married June Marie Sires December 16, 1950 in Dike. She died August 4, 1992. He married Betty Krogh August 6, 1994 in Waterloo.
Herman was a firefighter for the city of Waterloo for 44 years, retiring in 1993. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, four step-children and seven step-grandchildren; his two daughters, Becky (Danny Joe) Rose of Blair, Okla., Brenda (Dennis Gettman) Wenzel of Yukon, Okla.; his son, Gary (Kristin) of Cedar Falls; three grandsons, Joshua, Benjamin, and Jared.
Preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Sulentic; and a grandson, Noah.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church with burial in Garden of Memories. Full military rites will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and flag presentation by the Iowa Army Honor Guard.
Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
