About Isaac Stoney
Andrew (d. 1872), George (d. 1786), Isaac (d. 1790), Isaac (b. c. 1773), Mary (b. c. 1780), Ruth (1778-1871), Thomas (1715-1764), and Thomas (c. 1774-1845) are given the middle name Butler by Alex B. M. Stoney, ‘Some newer annals of the Stoney family’ (Epping (NSW): the author, 2008). No other source has been found for this, and it seems likely that the name Butler was introduced into the family only by the marriage of Richard Falkiner Stoney to Jane Butler in 1812.
Burke's Landed Gentry of Ireland, 1912 ed., gives the order of siblings as Thomas, George, Robert, Andrew, Isaac, Mary, Anne (the latter two being girls are listed separately). The only definite birth date is Robert, 1776, which is compatible with Trinity College records. Alex B. M. Stoney gives dates from c. 1772 to c. 1792 but evidence from land deeds shows that his order of births is wrong. The other birth dates are estimated here to be as compatible as possible with the range of dates and with the other evidence.
Of Frankfort, Co. Offaly, and Herbert Terrace, Pembroke Road, Dublin.
Linen merchant of Tandragee (Registry of Deeds 722-52-493187). Living at Mountpleasant, co. Down, in 1829 (Registry of Deeds 1835-3-179).
