I.N. Houston Succumbs to Illness Here

Funeral Services Scheduled Today

Isaac Newton Houston, 77, local business executive for many years, died at his home at 8888 Mansfield Rd. at 9:05 a.m. Sunday after a long illness.

He was president of the Central Wholesale Co., a building materials firm located at 2730 Linwood Ave. He was the senior deacon in the First Baptist Church, and was a past member of the Shreveport Rotary Club.

Mr. Houston was a native of Sarepta, but had resided in Shreveport since 1912, when he moved here from Good Pine. His first wife, Cora Dance, whom he married in 1904, died in 1935. the second Mrs. Houston, nee Clara Brock, whom he married in 1938, died in 1941.

Funeral services will be held at the Osborn Chapel at 10 a.m. Monday. Dr. James W. Middleton, pastor of the First Baptist Church will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Harold Bennett. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gus Brandt, Herman W. Moore, Jack W. Martin, David A. Schoolfield, Mason L. Burrough, and Billy G. Irvan.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and directors of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Houston is survived by one son, Earl L. Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Carl B. Maurer and Mrs. Johnnie Moore, all of Shreveport; Mrs. Ben Pugh, Sarepta, and Mrs. Porter Cochran, of Springhill; two brothers, V.E. Houston, Shreveport, and Lee Houston, of Sarepta; 11 grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
