About Jacob L. Toews
Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jacob L. Toews, was born to Jacob B. and Margaret Toews on June 26, 1882, at Hochstad, Manitoba. After an illness of several weeks, he peacefully fell asleep on Monday, June 13, 1977, in the Linden Nursing Home, just before his ninety-fifth birthday.
Father grew up in the Kleefeld area. He took a homestead in the Swalwell district in 1904. The following year he moved there, where he farmed until his retirement.
On May 6, 1908, Father was united in marriage to Mother, Mary Unruh. They shared life's experiences for fifty-four years, until Mother passed away in 1962. Their home was blessed with seven daughters and three sons.
Upon realizing their need of a Saviour, our parents found forgiveness of their sins, were converted, and later baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in 1921. To this faith, they remained true to their end.
Father was not without his shortcomings. Yet, we, as well as others who knew him, are blessed with many precious memories that he left us. Being a person of few words, he expressed his peace with God and faith in his Creator by living a quiet, consistent Christian life. As a father, he was patient and kind, providing a source of stability and security in the home.
Father enjoyed good health for which he was grateful, especially so in his later years.
Preceding our father in death was his beloved wife, Mary, also two daughters: Minnie, Mrs. George L. Giesbrecht; Winnifred, Mrs. Abe Thiessen; and three grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his family, five daughters and three sons: Agnes and Dave R. Friesen, Clearbrook, British Columbia; Frank and Helen, Crooked Creek, Alberta; Leona and Elmer Reimer, Steinbach, Manitoba; Margaret and Henry Isaac, Clearbrook, British Columbia; Alda and Philip Isaac, Crooked Creek, Alberta; Mrs. Pauline Esau, Linden Nursing Home, Linden, Alberta; Elmer and Helen, Stettler, Alberta; Harvey and Susan, Swalwell, Alberta; two sons-in-law: George and Sarah Giesbrecht, Mt. Lehman, British Columbia; and Abe and Barbara Thiessen, Linden, Alberta; one brother, Henry L. Toews; three sisters: Mrs. Helen Regehr; Katherine, Mrs. Frank Hiebert; and Mrs. Susie Reimer; 102 grandchildren; 105 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 17 2022, 18:33:49 UTC
