Henry Agar (c.1705-46) was MP for Gowran in the Irish Parliament from 1727-46.

His brother, James Agar (1713-69), purchased the Callan estate from the Cuffes, Earls of Dysart, and his son became the 1st and only Baron Callan.  

On Lord Callan's death in 1815, the Callan estate was added to the Kilkenny estates of the senior branch of the family. Ellis Agar (1709-89) who married the 7th Earl of Mayo and later the 18th Baron Athenry, and who was reputedly the mistress of King George II, was the daughter of James Agar (d. 1733). She was created Countess Brandon for life in 1758.

James Agar was the son of Charles Agar and Ellis Blancheville. He married, secondly, Mary Wemyss, daughter of Sir Henry Wemyss. He married, firstly, Susannah Alexander, daughter of James Alexander, on 10 January 1692. He died on 30 November 1733.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) He lived at Gowran Castle, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
