James W. Bachman

 I was born and grew up in Lancaster County , Pennsylvania.  

As a young man,  I came out to Sprague NE, where I met and married 

Hannah Vanderhook.  I worked at various jobs including postmaster, 

trainmaster  and telegrapher  before leaving for Lincoln in 1928 

There I invested in real estate - buying several properties, fixing them

 up and selling them .     I also began and was head 

 of a life insurance company in Lincoln.   I did well until losing most 

 of the properties in the Great Depression . 

During WWII We moved out to Santa Monica to be with family . From

  there  ,  I was manager of hotels  in Atascadero, Lompoc and Santa Paula

 At the age of  64 I bought a gift store in San Clemente , CA and ran 

 that with Hannah until I retired  at aged  67.  At that point , we  moved back to Santa 

Monica
